Historical Note
So named because ten centuries ago in Saxon times, Torchil was the very first known owner of the land on which Digswell Lodge stands.
The penthouse is reached from the ground floor entrance hall with its mullion windows by the original solid wood spiral staircase, which winds around a newel cut mostly from a single tree.
The first floor study has leaded windows and exposed beams. But the pièce de résistance is the hipped roof upper storey open plan living area and three bedrooms encircling the majestic brick built Jacobean chimney stack and open hearth. These feature vaulted ceilings with exposed beams, inverted oak beam roof supports and dormer windows. The master bedroom includes an en-suite bathroom.
To cap it all, above the 2029 square foot penthouse, also set around the fourcornered Jacobean chimney stack, is a potential roof garden with magnificent views of Welwyn Garden City and the surrounding countryside.
