Historical Note
In 1786 the Lodge passed from the Shalcross family to Lord Cowper of
Panshanger. The Cowpers let the Lodge to tenant farmers, amongst them
a Mr Thomas Titmus, a Mr Throssell and finally Mr William Lyle, who
lived in the Lodge until 1919 when it was sold to Sir Ebenezer Howard
and the Welwyn Garden City Company.
